What to Wear

Long sleeves and solid colored clothing is recommended. Please try to avoid logos. Patterns are ok as long as they are subtle. Light colors look more casual and contemporary while dark tones tend to be more dramatic. If you are paled skin or have a larger build, it is recommended you stay away from wearing white.

Families clothing should blend, think about where you are placing your family portrait in your home when it comes to clothing and your portrait session location. Light colors will pop out of the picture while dark colors will not. Jeans or khaki’s with a black top will always give a nice look to any portrait.

Layering gives a nice look for both guys and gals. Gals need to pay special attention to their undergarments.

High School Senior Girls’ Clothing Suggestions

WEAR…Long-sleeved earth-tone sweater or blouse; Crop top; Dark sweatshirt; Solid-colored dress; Flowered dress; Sun dress; Dark jeans; Shorts; Swimsuit; Leather jacket; Denim jacket; Winter coats; Old, worn clothing; Hat; Jewelry, Shawl, Flannel shirt.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WEAR...Big stripes or busy patterns. Unless your arms are tanned and very thin; Don’t wear sleeveless, spaghetti straps, or short “cap” sleeves (which make upper arms look large and muscular); baggy or white jeans (adds weight to thighs); contrasts like a light top and a dark skirt, a white shirt under a sweater, or white undershirts.

Be aware of problems with undergarments, such as bra straps showing, a bra showing through or causing bumpiness in a thin top

High School Senior Guys’ Clothing Suggestions

WEAR…Solid, medium-toned sweaters; Plain t-shirts; Long-sleeved dark shirts; Flannel or small print shirts; Jeans; Baggy pants; Leather or denim jacket; Clothing with ripped holes; Sport coats; Sports uniforms; Letter jacket; Hats.

• YOUR CLOTHES in your closet photograph better than new clothes! It isn’t necessary to go shopping.

• LONG SLEEVES are best, especially for yearbook poses.

• MATCH CLOTHING to your location, prop and the season.

• HAIR… We don’t style hair. Bring a comb or brush. Wear it as you do normally first, and then different ways. Clean hair is best. Don’t use hair spray, mousse or gel. They make hair photograph stiff, oily, and dirty!

• MAKE-UP is best when it looks natural. Pay attention to the eyes and lips. Bring your makeup with you.

• HANDS... Your will show in most portraits, please make sure nails are cleaned and trimmed.

• GLASSES…Avoid glare and distortions. You should remove the lenses or borrow blank frames from your optical store.

• SUNGLASSES… (an absolute must on a sunny day).

• SUNTANS… Don’t tan your face! Tans make faces photograph oily, dirty and dark. (A tan on your body is great, but don’t burn or get tan lines….they will be retouched at your expense.)

• FASHION IDEAS…Cut out poses and concept ideas from fashion or sports magazines. Of course, clip ideas that you will work for your appearance, figure, locations and props.

We will discuss clothing options when you schedule your portrait session.
